Support for Artists Affected by the Palisades and Eaton Fires

The LA Arts Community Fire Relief Fund is a collaborative effort led by the J. Paul Getty Trust, supported by major arts organizations and philanthropists. Administered by the Center for Cultural Innovation (CCI), the Fund provides financial assistance to Los Angeles County artists and arts workers impacted by the Palisades and Eaton fires that began on January 7, 2025.

Here’s everything you need to know to navigate and apply for this relief fund.


What Is the Fund For?

The Fund offers unrestricted grants of up to $10,000 to help alleviate financial hardships caused by fire-related damages. As a federally recognized disaster, this support is not taxable income.

Who Is Eligible?

To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a current full-time resident of Los Angeles County as of January 7, 2025.
  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Have been affected by the Palisades or Eaton fires, such as losing or sustaining severe damage to their home or artmaking studio.
  • Work as an artist or arts worker in LA County.
    • This includes individual artists in any discipline and full-time, part-time, or contract workers at LA arts organizations.
  • Submit a complete application.
  • Have no conflicts of interest (e.g., family or financial ties with CCI’s board or staff).

Priority will be given to those with low incomes, disabilities, or historically underserved populations.


Timeline

  • Application Opens: Monday, January 20, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. PST
  • Application Deadline: Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. PST
  • Notifications Sent: Monday, February 24, 2025, by 12:00 p.m. PST

How to Apply

  1. Prepare Your Documents:
    • Proof of residence (e.g., utility bill or lease).
    • Proof of your role in the arts (e.g., pay stubs, contracts, or portfolio links).
  2. Create an Account:
    Applications are accepted online via CCI’s Submittable platform. You’ll need to create an account to access the application.
  3. Submit Before the Deadline:
    Applications close on February 18, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. PST. Late submissions will not be accepted due to the tight timeline.
  4. Language Support:
    For Spanish speakers, materials and translation services will be available starting January 27, 2025. Contact Eriksen Translations during office hours for assistance.

How Will Applications Be Reviewed?

CCI staff will evaluate applications based on need. If demand exceeds available funding, a randomized process may be used to select beneficiaries.
